High Wycombe’s multi award-winning local radio station Wycombe Sound, have been granted an extension to their five year licence from Ofcom – taking them up to 2026. The station, who originally went live in 2016 after three successful pilots, broadcast a range of locally produced programmes with a team of 70+ volunteers.

The station has worked locally with countless local charities and businesses to help them promote their causes and services to High Wycombe and the surrounding areas. Wycombe Sound also launched Employment FM back in 2019. Employment FM is a five week course that teaches unemployed people who face challenges in seeking employment to make radio programmes whilst brushing up on their key skills. It is a partnership with Building Futures Buckinghamshire and has resulted in participants receiving exciting opportunities at the end of the five weeks.

Over the previous five years, Wycombe Sound have won numerous awards, including Station of the Year (2017), Outside Broadcast of the Year (2018), Best Entertainment Show (Rob L’Esperance Radio Show, 2018) and Specialist Music Show (Roots Collective, 2019) at the Community Radio Awards. The station was also shortlisted in the John Myers Award for Best Local Radio Station at the ARIAS (2020).

“We are very excited by the news that Ofcom have granted us a five year extension to our original licence justifying all the hard work put in by our community volunteers over the past five years.”

Managing Director, Chris Phillips

The team at Wycombe Sound look forward to the next five years.
