WYCOMBE SOUND 106.6FM CROWNED “STATION OF THE YEAR”

High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire: Wycombe Sound won 7 awards at the 2017 Community Radio Awards which were held in Bristol on Saturday evening.

The radio station, based in High Wycombe town centre and just short of it’s first birthday, won the following awards [having received nominations in 7 categories}

Gold:
Station of the Year

Silver:
Best Female Presenter (Philippa Sawyer)
Best Male Presenter (Rob L’Esperance)
Technical Innovation (Raspberry Pi Uplink)
Speech & Journalism (The Late Show with Joe Shennan)

Bronze:
Best Sports Show (Saturday Sports Show)
Best Community Programme (Mid Mornings)

The station received awards in every category where nominated.

Philippa Sawyer, Programme Director said ‘I am absolutely delighted with the recognition we have received from the Community radio sector across the UK. Congratulations to all those who received awards and nominations. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers and everyone who has contributed to the station. We have producers, presenters and others who work behind the scenes producing content across a wide range of genres that is worthy of any commercial/professional station. Many of our volunteers have no previous broadcasting experience.’’

Wycombe Sound 106.6FM went live on 31 October 2016, following three very successful RSLs. Run by a core team with 100+ volunteers, from all walks of life and aged 17 to 77, we serve a core target demographic of 35-70 year olds. While we have only been on air on a permanent basis for a short time, the impact on the community of having a local radio station has been immense, with listeners saying we have “put the buzz back into High Wycombe”.
